ACPA’s Leif Wathne named CP Tech Center associate director

Leif Wathne

The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) and the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) have announced that Leif Wathne, P.E., ACPA’s executive vice president, will be transitioning to a new role.

Effective June 13, Leif will assume the role of associate director with the CP Tech Center. He will be responsible for nurturing CP Tech Center engagement with the concrete pavement construction industry, helping manage activities under current federal cooperative agreements, as well as assisting in the development and communication of best practice guidance products. Both ACPA and the CP Tech Center believe this transition will only strengthen the long-term partnership and 16-year collaborative effort between the two organizations.

Laura O’Neill Kaumo, ACPA President & CEO, stated that “as long-time partners of the CP Tech Center, we are excited to continue our collaboration with their great team and about Leif’s transition to their staff. As a 17-year veteran of the ACPA staff, Leif will continue to help deliver the message that concrete pavements are the best option to meet today’s need for resilient, sustainable infrastructure solutions.”

Leif is credited with advancing during his ACPA tenure concrete pavement innovations and technology through the development of best practice guidance, specifications, and technical publications as well as by nurturing strategic partnerships. Leif has also served as a technical resource and industry spokesperson for transportation agencies on concrete pavement matters.

Ed Griffith, chairman of ACPA’s board of directors, has commented that “Leif has been an integral part of ACPA’s market growth and service to the membership, and we are excited that his new role with the CP Tech Center only furthers this work as well as the partnership between the two organizations.”

Dr. Peter Taylor, P.E. (IL), FACI, director of the CP Tech Center, has noted that Leif’s background makes him uniquely qualified to step into this position. “He will complement current CP Tech Center staff as they work with state and local agencies as well as with academics around the nation,” Taylor said. “This is a great opportunity for Leif to broaden his impact on our community as he uses his technical and communication skills along with his solid relationships in the industry to facilitate implementing the best technologies available into everyday practice.”

Leif will continue to serve ACPA through the Mid-Year Meeting to be held June 7–9 in Newport, Rhode Island. ACPA will be conducting a national search for the vacant position.
