Alipour, Ashlock recognized for ‘exceptional effort’ in pandemic

Iowa State University (ISU) recently announced the recipients of the COVID-19 Exceptional Effort Awards that included recognition for two Institute for Transportation- (InTrans-) affiliated associate professors.

Alice Alipour, Bridge Engineering Center (BEC) Structure and Infrastructure Engineer, was among the recipients of the Excellence in Remote Instruction Award. Specifically, she was recognized for not only transforming but improving the delivery of CE 332: Structural Analysis I, one of the most challenging courses in the structural engineering program.

“I am honored for this recognition. This certainly was a challenging semester, Alipour said.

In addition, InTrans faculty affiliate Jeramy Ashlock received recognition with the Excellence in Face-to-Face Instruction Award. The award recognizes instructors who successfully modified their courses to engage students creatively and safely in face-to-face settings. Ashlock was recognized for his exceptional simultaneous delivery of in-person and online instruction through the innovative use of technology and training, as well as support of other faculty.

ISU announced the awards in October to recognize the extraordinary and innovative ways that people at Iowa State have strived to overcome the challenges of the pandemic. In all, there were 12 awards categories, 52 individuals and teams recognized in those categories, and a total 647 nominations.
